Direct speech is quoting the exact words of the speaker, the words are usually enclosed in inverted commas (or quotation marks).

Indirect speech is usually used to talk about the past, the actual words of the speaker are change. The pronouns of the sentence are change too accordingly. In indirect speech, the actual words of the speaker aren't enclosed in invited commas or quotation marks. Also the word "that" will be used before the actual word of the speaker.

Galibi ana amfani da indirect speech ne domin yin bayani akan abun da ya riga ya faru. Asalin maganar da mutum ya faɗa tana canzawa, kama pronoun na wannan jimlar shima yana canzawa. Ba'a sanya maganar da mutum ya faɗa a cikin invited commas. Kuma sannan ana amfani da kalmar "that" kafin maganar da mutum ya faɗa.

In the following example, the pronoun in the sentence is 'I'. But it will change in indirect speech to corresponds to the verb in the sentence.

A wannan misalin da yake ƙasa, pronoun da yake cikin Jimlar shine 'I' Amma zai canza a indirect speech domin yazo daidai da kalmar verb wacce take cikin jimlar
