Clause

A clause is a group of word that contains a subject and a verb. There are many types of clause in English but we can only give example of two here

Clause wasu kalmomi ne waɗanda a koda yaushe suke ƙunshe da wanda ya aikata wani aiki da kuma aikin da aka aikata. A kwai clause masu yawa a turanci amma a wannan shafin zamu bayar da misalan guda biyu ne kawai.
1. Main Clause

A main clause (also known as independent clause) are words that have subject and verb and therefore it can work alone as a complete sentence on the basis that it have complete meaning.

Main clause (ana kuma kiransa da independent clausa) kalmomi ne da suke ƙunshe da wanda ya aikata aiki da kuma aikin da aka aikata. A don haka za a iya amfani da main clause domin gina cikakkiyar jimla mai ma'ana.

Example of Main Clause

  1. He graduated from university.
  2. He bought and orange.
  3. Nafisat always stays in the library
2. Subordinate Clause

Subordinate clause cannot work alone as a sentence because it lacks complete meaning; it relies on main clause to give complete meaning.

Amma subordinate clause ba zai iya gina jimla mai ma'ana shi kaɗai ba, yana dogara ne da main clause domin bayar da cikakkiyar ma'ana

Example of subordinate clause

After four years of study.

The above sentence is not a complete sentence because it need additional information to give meaning. That is the reason why subordinate clause is called dependent clause.

But if we combine the main clause and subordinate clause together we will get complete sentence as follow:

He graduated from university after four years of study.

you can see that we have complete sentence now that we combined the two clauses together.

A duba wannan misalin: After four years of study. Wannan jimlar wacce take nufin "bayan karatun shekaru huɗu" ba cikakkiyar jimla bace domin kuwa tana buƙatar ƙarin bayani domin ta bayar da cikakkiyar ma'ana.

Amma idan muka gauraya main clause da kuma subordinate clause ɗin tare zamu samu cikakkiyar jimla mai ma'ana kamar haka:

He graduated from university after four years of study.. ma'ana: ya kammala karatun jami'a bayan karatun shekaru huɗu.
