"To be" is a verb used to describe something or someone. It can be used to say different things according to the context. But the most common use of the "to be" verb is to talk about names, age, feeling, nationalities and professions.
"To be" verb is usually irregular. Since "to be" verb is usually irregular, its written in different ways according to the subject.

Kalmar aiki ta "to be" ana anfani da ita ce gurin siffanta abu. Ana anfani da ita domin faɗan abubuwa mabanbanta, ya danganta ga irin maganar da ake yi. Amma anfi yin anfani da "to be" domin yin magana akan sunaye, shekaru, abubuwan dake damun mutum, abubuwa da suka shafi garuruwa da kuma wasu ƙwarewa da mutane suke da ita. galibi kalmar "to be" ba mai sauƙin sauyawa bane; tun da dai har kalmar "to be" ba mai sauƙin sauyawa ba ce, to ana rubuta ta ne a yanayi daban daban, ya danganta da irin "subject" ɗin da ake amfani da ita.

Be This is the most common form of the verb. Is mostly used in imperatives and infinitive. E.g

"b" shine wanda aka fi anfani dashi, kuma yawanci an fi anfani dashi gurin jaddada muhimmancin abu, sannan kuma ana anfani dashi tare da kalmomi waɗanda basa sauyawa a cikin jimla. Misali

be nice to your parents. ka zamanto mai ɗa'a ga iyayenka.

I like to be in my parents' house. Zan so na kasance a gidan iyaye na.

Present (am, are)

Present form of this verb is mainly used in simple present and its meaning can change according to context. Present form of "to be" verb is usually shortened in writing. E.g

Galibi ana yin anfani da present tense na wannan kalmar ce, kuma ma'anar ta yana canzawa domin ya zo dai dai da irin maganar da ake yi. Galibi present tense na kalmar to be ana taƙaita shi ne, Misali:

Past (was, were)

To be can change its form again in past tenss. E.g

To be zai kuma iya sauyawa a past tense. Misali:

Some example of the past form of the to be.

Wasu daga cikin past tense na kalmar to be

I was at the scene yesterday. ina gurin da abun ya faru jiya.

You were 30 years old last year. shekarar data wuce kana da shekaru talatin.

Sani and Jamilu were students, now they are teachers. a da Sani da Jamilu ɗalibai ne, amma yanzu malamai ne.

It was raining in Kano a while ago. an yi ruwa ɗazu a Kano.

Past participle (been)

This is verb with passive tense and past perfect tense.

Wannan kalmomi ne waɗanda suke da past tense da kuma past perfect tense Misali:

She has been busy all day. ta kasance cikin aiki duk tsawan yinin yau.

Ahmad and Usman have been working for an hour. Ahmad da Usman sun kasance suna yin aiki na tsawan sa'a ɗaya.

He has been a lawyer for a year now. Shekara ɗaya kenan yana yin aiki a matsayin lauya.

Continuous (being)

The continuous form of the to be verb is used to make up the continuous tenses. E.g.

Ana anfani da continuous tense na kalmar to be ce domin haɗa jimla ta continuous tenses. Misali:

Ahmad is being helpful. Ahmad ya kasance mai taimako.

Passive

The "to be" verb both in its present and past forms can be used to make passive sentences.

Za'a iya yin anfani da present tense ko past tense na kalmar "to be" domin gina jimla ta past tense. Misali:

The Prince house was built on the mountains. an gina gidan basaraken ne akan tsauni.

The meeting is being held right now. ana kan yin taron yanzu haka.
