A clause is a group of word that conveys a complete idea. It is a grammatical unit that has a finite verb (subject & predicate)

Clause wasu kalmomi ne da suke bada cikakken bayanin abun da ake magana akai. Wani sashi ne na nahawu da yake da kalmomin aiki (verb) masu iyaka waɗanda suke da subject da kuma predicate, Misali:

The man came, saw the food and ate it.

Types of Clauses (Nau'ukan Clauses)

  1. Noun clause
  2. This takes the place of a noun or pronoun. Noun clause answers the question "what", it can be replaced by the word "it". They usually introduced by the words like "what, why, whether, when, and that.

    Noun clause zai iya yin aiki a madadin "noun" ko "pronoun", noun clause shine yake amsa tambayar da take tambayar "mene" kuma za'a iya yin anfani da kalmar "it" a madadinta. galibi kalmomi irin su what, why, whether, when da kuma "and" sune ake anfani dasu domin yin shinfiɗar noun clause. Misali:

    I understand what he told me. (na fahimci abun daya faɗa min)

    Abun da wannan jimlar take nufi shine ka fahimci wani abu. Wannan jimlar ita ce ake kira noun clause domin tana yin bayanin cewa ka fahimci wani abu.

  3. Adverbial clause
  4. This tells the basis condition and extent to which an action of the verb takes place. It is normally introduced by it, should, in case, as, although, even if, where. e.t.c. For example

    adverbial clause yana yi mana ƙarin bayani ne akan usulin aiki da kuma tsawan lokacin da aiki ya ɗauka yana gudana. Kalmomin it, should, in case, unless, as, although, even if, where da dai sauransu sune ake fara sawa kafin a sanya adverbial clause. Misali:

    We shall attend the party if Garba comes. (adverbial clause of condition) Zamu halarci walimar idan Garba ya zo (irin wannan jimlar ita ce ake kira "adverbial clause of condition")

    Aikin da wannan jimlar take yi shine sauya kalmar "attend"

    Zainab is walking as if her father is the Emir of Zazzau. (adverbial clause of manner). Zainab tana yin tafiya tamkar babanta shine sarkin Zazzau (irin wannan jimlar ita ce ake kira "adverbial clause of manner")

    Aikin da wannan jimlar take yi shine sauya kalmar "walking"
  5. Adjectival clause
  6. This modifies or qualifies a noun or pronoun. It normally answers the question who? whose? which? e.t.c.

    Adjectival clause ta kasance tana sauya "noun" ko "pronoun", galibi tana amsa tambayoyin da waɗannan kalmomin suke yi "who? whose, which da dai sauransu. Misali:

    The student who cheated in the exams has been caught. (relative adjectival clause) An kama ɗalibin da yayi satar jarabawa (irin wannan jimlar itace ake kira "relative adjectival clause")

    Aikin da da take yi shine yin ƙarin bayani akan sakamakon abun daya samu "student"

    This is the girl that took the first position in class (relative adjectival clause). wannan itace yarinyar da ta zo ta ɗaya a ajin. (irin wannan jimlar itace ake kira "relative adjectival clause")

    Aikin da wannan jimlar take yi shine yin bayani akan sakamakon abun daya sami yarinyar.
